Student Body President Candidates

Jason W. Nippa
I am a Sophomore running for Student Body President with Redbirds United. Our entire team is committed to representing the student population to the best of our ability and working tirelessly on the most pressing issues to our constituents. Advocating on behalf of controlling tuition and student loan prices, as well as textbook costs, I look forward using my campus leadership experience to further these efforts. I'll also be working alongside my Vice President to advocate for the concerns of underrepresented groups at Illinois State, while supporting civic engagement opportunities in the University community.

Student Body Vice President Candidates

Johari Huggins
I am a Senior running for Student Body Vice President with Redbirds United. I plan to serve Illinois State University by preparing its future student leaders through the Emerging Leaders Program and other initiatives that promote service and development. I also intend to organize a benchmarking committee to review University policies that affect the concerns of the minority community, such as the existing Harassment Policy. In order to improve student recruitment and retention, we must first establish a comfortable campus climate for the entire student body.

Student Body Executive Director Candidates

Monica Gibbs
I am a Junior running for Student Body Executive Director with Redbirds United. My goal is to strengthen the association internally; I believe that the strength of an association must first come from within before it can influence success campus wide. We have surrounded ourselves with very influential student leaders from all across campus with different backgrounds and have truly created the strongest possible group. I want to be able to represent the student body by making sure that all student concerns are taken into consideration and properly addressed.

Student Government Association On-Campus Senator Candidates

Cassi Lund
I am a Freshman running for an On-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. I plan to work towards becoming a cost efficient university by eliminating unnecessary spending on the budget to reduce cost for students. I want to improve student unity highlighting diversity and I will work towards student involvement and knowledge of local and national issues to become a university that contributes to society. I would also like to improve campus sustainability and become environmentally conscience by limiting preventable waste.

Jonathan Moore
I am a Sophomore running for an On-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. I would like to be a powerful representative for the voice of my constituents. I want to focus my efforts on increasing civic engagement by working to build an effective Civic Engagement Committee within SGA. I would also like to focus my efforts on improving political participation on campus, including voter registration and voter education. I will also be an advocate for a Night-Ops reform policy to make things easier for responsible residents to enter and exit their residential houses.

Lauren Richgruber
I am a Freshman running for an On-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. As an on-campus senator I hope to serve and represent my constituents in major on-campus issues regarding tuition, housing, parking and transportation, diversity, and sustainability. Overall, I want each constituent to feel that they really do have a say at this university.

Student Government Association Off-Campus Senator Candidates

Jose Felipe Cardona III
I am a Junior running for an Off-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. I would like to represent those students that are not always heard. I basically would like to fight for the little guy. Another goal of mine is to create a better relationship between students and the towns of Bloomington and Normal.

Tyler Clark
I am a Junior running for an Off-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. My goal is to promote active civic engagement among the student body and to carry students’ concerns to local, state, and federal officials. I currently attend town council meetings and feel that the relationships I have created with them have been very positive. I look forward to continuing with SGA as an Off-Campus Senator next year.

Alexandra Hochhauser
I am a Sophomore running for an Off-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. My personal goal for SGA is to see that registered student organizations utilize each other. At Illinois State University, we have over 300 registered student organizations. They are all highly diverse and each is knowledgeable in different areas of campus life. They are full of networking opportunities and rising leaders. If registered student organizations were able to work together more often, our campus would benefit from it through improved, diversified programming.

JeRon R. Moore
I am a Sophomore running for an Off-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. My goal is to increase constituency contact by holding events that will allow students to voice their opinions. I will be a voice for my constituents and put their interests forth when making decisions. I want to help Illinois State become more socially aware of the diversity concerns on campus and unite the campus as a whole. I feel that I can extract from my previous experience in SGA and become more engaged as a leader on campus.

Kathleen Murphy
I am a Sophomore running for an Off-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. Through my leadership experience I have realized that it is important for schools to keep in communication with students. I will keep in communication with my constituents by finding out what other students feel about issues facing the school. Safety is a major concern; I will work to make sure that people know the safety procedures and policies. I also believe that off-campus students should have a fair opportunity to recycle in order to help our environment, globally and locally.

Nicole Schraub
I am a Sophomore running for an Off-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. This term I would like to keep the off-campus students involved, and raise their spirit in campus activities as well as their awareness of SGA and other RSOs. I hope to bring programs that will unite on-campus and off-campus students. With recent events occurring, I want all students attending Illinois State to feel safe and secure while still having a fun college experience!

Jennifer Swanson
I am a Freshman running for an Off-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. My goals for next year are to increase safety precautions at ISU. Since the Virginia Tech and NIU shootings have occurred, I want to work with the school to provide solutions to make this campus safe for its students. I want to effectively represent the off-campus and Greek students at Illinois State University. I want to work with the apartment owners to give ISU students the best options, prices, and lease signing dates.

Alex J. Vopat
I am a Junior running for an Off-Campus Senator position with Redbirds United. I would like for students to be knowledgeable of the allocation of their student fee dollars, and allow the opportunity to have them decide where the money truly goes; whether it be for the Opportunity Fund or Program Fund. Surrounding myself with people who are highly motivated and have the same direction in life will only bring out the best in me, and the people I work with.

The unified front of every race will add to the betterment of the campus climate and overall feelings of African Americans.
