Student Government Association Senators Job Description

The Student Government Association (SGA) Senators are elected by Illinois State students. Senators attend SGA meetings and represent the interests of their respective constituency.

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a student at Illinois State University.
  • On/Off Campus Senators must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be in good disciplinary standing. Graduate Senators must maintain a 3.00 GPA and be in good disciplinary standing
  • Must have completed at least one semester (excluding summer sessions) at Illinois State.
  • Must not anticipate graduation prior to May of the academic year being served.
  • May not have night class on Wednesday evenings during entire term in office.
  • On-Campus Senator Only: Must reside in university housing during fall and spring semester of the next academic year.
  • Off-Campus Senator Only: Must reside in off-campus housing during fall and spring semester of the next academic year.
  • Graduate Senator Only: Must have graduate student status throughout the term in office.

Responsibilities

  • Must attend all SGA Assembly and Academic Senate meetings from 6:00-9:30 P.M. each Wednesday night.
  • Must complete a minimum of 8 office hours per week.

Compensation

  • In exchange for successful completion of weekly office hours,SGA Senators receive up to $2,300 based upon agreed contract. The total payment will be divided and dispersed equally via paychecks distributed every two weeks.
