Student Government Advisement

Student Government Advisement helps you Find Your Way at Illinois State by providing support to members of the Illinois State Student Government Association (SGA), and the students interested in becoming a part of it. The Student Government Association is the official student governing body of the University. Its membership consists of elected executive officers and senators, appointed executive staff members and senators, and elected representatives from eight specific registered student organizations and offices. The SGA is responsible for making student appointments, managing the student fee process, and representing the student body within the University’s shared governance system.

The members of the Student Government Association include more than just the members of the Student Senate. Many active members are regular students serving on various Senate and campus committees to tackle specific issues, or to promote and develop the SGA. Students interested in becoming an active member of SGA should contact Student Government Advisement. In addition, new students to Illinois State interested in becoming a part of SGA are encouraged to participate in the Emerging Leaders program.
