Illinois State University is committed to providing equal opportunity and an educational and work environment for its students, faculty, and staff free from any discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, ancestry, age, marital status, physical or mental disability, unfavorable discharge from military, or status as a disabled veteran or veteran of the Vietnam Era.
The Office for Diversity and Affirmative Action is responsible for administering and monitoring Illinois State University's Affirmative Action Plan, Plan for Diversity, and the equal opportunity/affirmative action policies and procedures. Inquiries about or complaints alleging violation of the University's equal opportunity/affirmative action policies should be directed to the Office for Diversity and Affirmative Action. The office may be contacted at (309) 438-3383.
In many cases, students may be accused of violations that may also constitute a crime. In these cases, cases will be reviewed for disciplinary violations after they have been reported to appropriate law enforcement authorities. Community Rights & Responsibilities receives all reports involving students that are filed with the Illinois State University Police Department, and can work with the student and other external police agencies to receive other reports. Please contact Community Rights & Responsibilities with any questions on this process.
The student disciplinary process does not seek, nor is qualified, to determine whether or not violations of local, state, or federal law have taken place. Similarly, criminal and civil courts do not seek, nor are qualified, to determine whether or not violations of the Code of Student Conduct at Illinois State University have been committed. The aims of each of these processes is different, and Illinois State University makes it a practice to resolve all disciplinary complaints independent of whether or not criminal or civil action is also transpiring.
