Safe Zone Ally Involvement

Now that you've completed your Safe Zone training session, stay active in the Safe Zone community. Use these tips:

  • Join the Safe Zone Committee.
  • Check out the GLBT resources at the Office of Intercultural Programs and Services.
  • Come to a PRIDE meeting (Wednesdays 7 p.m. in SSB 375).
  • Display your Safe Zone sticker and wear your button proudly every day!
  • Join the PRIDE listserv.
  • Consider volunteering at the Open Door Youth Center.
  • Check out the Resource library.
  • Attend or help out with some of PRIDE's annual events like: National Coming Out Day, The Drag Show at the Bone Student Center, GLBT weeks focusing on Bisexual and Transgender people, National Day of Silence, The PRIDE float in the Homecoming Parade, The GLBT cultural dinner and many other events!
  • Volunteer for the McLean County AIDS Task Force.
  • Come to a PFLAG meeting.
  • March with PFLAG in the Labor Day parade in Bloomington.
  • Encourage other faculty and staff to participate in Safe Zone training.
  • Find out what GLBT resources are available in town.
  • Attend the Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Allied College Conference.
  • Subscribe to the Advocacy Council for Human Rights listserv and see what is going on in the community.
  • Check out the GLBT resources in Milner Library.
  • Take one of the GLBT focused classes that are being created at Illinois State.
