Safe Zone Orientation

During the two-hour orientation session, participants engage in a mock coming-out exercise, view a short DVD, discuss case studies, and receive resources and follow-up activities. The follow-up activities include the opportunity to be on a Safe Zone participant listserv and attend monthly roundtable sessions.

At the conclusion of the 2-hour orientation session, participants have the opportunity to sign a Member Agreement that affirms their intention to serve as an ally to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) population on campus. Upon return of the Member Agreement, participants receive a Safe Zone sign and button for posting in their office or wearing. Participants are not required to sign this agreement, but may simply attend the orientation session to increase their awareness and personal knowledge. All orientation session participants are given a Safe Zone resource manual.
