Scholarships

Diversity Advocacy provides a number of scholarships available to Illinois State University students.

ABAE Book Scholarship

The Association of Black Academic Employees offer this scholarship to help fund books for undergraduate students at Illinois State, in good academic standing, demonstrating a commitment to the African-American community via scholarship and service. Applications available in spring 2008.

Black Colleagues Association Scholarship

The Black Colleagues Association Scholarship is awarded to African-American students and is funded by the Black Colleagues Association, a chartered affinity club of the Alumni Association. Applications available in spring 2008.

Brett Cassens Memorial Scholarship

The Brett Cassens memorial Scholarship was established through memorial gifts made by family, friends, and colleagues, and through a gift from the Cassens/Stille Trust. This scholarship provides support for the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community at Illinois State University as well as supporting students who have interest in pursuing careers in medicine. Applications available spring 2008.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) Student Support Fund

The GLBT Student Support Fund provides emergency grants for students who lose the financial support of his/her family due to their sexual orientation. The primary focus of the initiative is to create a safety net, keeping a student enrolled while he or she works through family and financial issues. Awards will be considered by the GLBT Student Support Fund Selection Committee. The Selection Committee consists of the Executive Board of Illinois State University’s Triangle Association and the Dean of Students. Students requesting assistance should contact Diversity Advocacy at (309) 438-8968.

Run for Academic Success & Excellence Scholarship

Since 2004, Assistant Dean of Students Rick Lewis has competed in the 26.2 mile Chicago Marathon to raise funds to support book scholarships for participants in the Minority Academic Scholar Achievement Initiative and student employees working in Diversity Advocacy. This is a one-time award which will be distributed in April at the Annual Awards and Recognition Ceremony celebrating the achievements of minority students, faculty, and staff at Illinois State.

Susan T. Kern Special Opportunity Scholarship Fund

The Susan T. Kern Special Opportunity Scholarship Fund is to provide financial support to female students at Illinois State University in support of one-time special academic or co-curricular opportunities. It is Dr. Kern’s wish to provide financial assistance to a student for an opportunity they otherwise wouldn’t be able to fund. Awards will be considered by the Selection Committee and reviewed on an as-needed basis.

Vincent Lionel Davis Scholarship

The Vincent Lionel Davis Scholarship was established by the Davis Family in memory of Vincent Lionel Davis, a 1981 graduate of Illinois State University. It is awarded to African-American students selected by the Black Colleagues Association, a chartered affinity club of the Alumni Association. Applications available in spring 2008.
