Opportunity Fund

The Opportunity Fund is available for registered student organizations to request funds to support programs and/or student organization travel for the current academic year. (Sports Clubs need to contact Recreation Services for support.)

Opportunity Fund requests must be the result of one or more of the following circumstances:

  • An unexpected opportunity has arisen since the last regular funding cycle (e.g. a bid for a regional conference was accepted).
  • The RSO (registered student organization) experienced an unanticipated need (e.g. an unexpected cost change).
  • The RSO has further developed a program concept that was not fully planned in time to request a regular RSO Program Fund allocation.
  • The organization’s RSO status has changed (i.e. new RSO).
  • There was unanticipated student interest in a program or travel opportunity.

If your RSO meets one of the above circumstances, follow the steps below to complete the Opportunity Fund Request.

  1. Refer to the RSO Program Fund Guidelines while completing requests. Specifically note the Highlighted Excluded Expenditures.
  2. Complete the either the Event Narrative or Travel Narrative AND a Budget Request Form for each program that you are requesting funding for 4-6 weeks prior to the first day of the event/travel.
  3. Submit the paperwork (from step 2) to the Student Involvement Center and sign up for a hearing with the Fee Board.
  4. The Verification Page must be turned into the Student Involvement Center the Friday prior to the hearing date.
  5. RSOs will be notified of the Fee Board’s decision via email or a letter in their RSO mailbox within two weeks of the hearing.
