Each registered student organization is required to have an advisor who is a full-time faculty or staff member of Illinois State. The choice of advisor is the decision of the organization; however it is recommended that the advisor share the values of the organization and its members. While there is no required level of involvement for organization advisors, it is important for student leaders and advisors set mutual expectations to help guide their interactions and roles.
Whether you are new to the organization or a veteran advisor or leader, it is important for student leaders and advisors to engage in periodic discussions about what the advisory relationship should look like. Both advisors and leaders should set expectations about the level of advisor involvement and preferred methods of communication. These types of conversations will help in preventing miscommunication and confusion.
