Current Volunteer Opportunities

Leadership and Service provides the following list of current volunteer opportunities available within Bloomington/Normal to help students learn more about the community and meet local needs.

  • Crossroads Global Handcrafts. Volunteer to be a sales associate, create store displays, provide community outreach, provide bookkeeping services, create newsletter or marketing materials at this fair trade store. Contact Gayle Miller at (309 )827-0121 or stop by the store at 428 N. Main Street in Bloomington.
  • Children's Discovery Museum. Collect soda bottle caps, old towels for wicks, 20 oz. bottles, newspaper, packing tape, masking tape, clean glass baby food jars, unsharpened pencils, straight drinking straws, and clean soup or vegetable cans for use in museum activities.   • Star Adult Literacy. Teach english as a second language to adults. Contact the office at (309) 888-9884.
  • Boys & Girls Club. Volunteer to tutor for the POWER Hour. Contact Laura Duvendack.
  • Immigration Project. Serve as a greeter or webcam assistant in the regional clinics. Contact Christine Howe at (309 )829-8703 x105.
  • Normal Public Library. Volunteer with Partners In Reading program or help with book recycling. Contact Jennifer Williams at (309) 454-4668.
  • Children's Home + Aid. Help in the Crisis Nursery, with the Parent's Care and Share program, or with courthouse childcare. Contact Lesley Schwartz at (309) 834-5259.
  • OSF Saint Joseph Medical Center. Volunteer in the Emergency Department. Contact Jennifer Sedbrook at (309) 665-4728.
  • Boys & Girls Club. Assist with Smart Moves and Smart Girls programs. Contact Erin Ensensberger at (309) 829- 3034.
  • YWCA Stepping Stones Sexual Assault Program. Provide phone counseling, medical/legal advocacy, and crisis support. Contact Yadira Ruiz at (309) 662-0461.
  • PATH Hotline Volunteer. Answer phones at the 24 hour hotline; training provided beginning September 17. Contact Alicia at (309) 834-0541.
  • PATH Money Management Program. Assist elderly individuals with paying bills and balancing the checkbook. Contact Doug at (309) 834-0545.
  • Habitat for Humanity. Assist with Restore, the Habitat Discount Home Center. Contact Steve Stolarick at (309) 454-6047.
  • Project Oz. Assist with the front desk by answering phones, fielding crisis calls and greeting clients. Contact Randi Kapchinske at (309) 827-0377.
  • Special Opportunities Available in Recreation (S.O.A.R.). Help with program activities and events and work closely with participants to provide an enjoyable and quality leisure experience. Contact Shelley Schultz at (309) 434-2406.

  • Bloomington Public Library. Outreach Services. Assist with deposit collection delivery and/or with the home delivery services. Contact Gayle Tucker at (309) 828-6091.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters. Make a difference in the life of a child by being a mentor during school hours or evenings/weekends. Contact Katie Roemer at (309) 828-1870.
