How to Get Involved
Not sure where to start? Try this:
- Select an organization and attend its meetings. See flyers posted on campus and in the Daily Vidette, Illinois State's student newspaper.
- Visit student organization tables at
Festival ISU, a special outdoor fair held on the Quad during the first week of fall semester classes.
- Attend Winterfest in the Bone Student Center during the first week of February. Attend
Springfest on the Quad in mid-April.
- Stop by the Student Involvement Center and RSO for assistance or names of contacts of registered student organizations.
- Check out the list of registered student organizations to find one that interests you. Visit their web sites for more information.
- Keep an eye open for chalking, flyers, and other announcements around campus.
- Check online networking sites for new groups being started.
- Start an organization of your own.
Questions to ask when considering joining a registered student organization
- Determine the goals and objectives of the group and what affiliations it may have with off-campus organizations.
- Figure out what commitments are expected of you.
- Find out the financial obligations are, if any.
- Will membership mean isolation from family and non-member friends?
- If the group is of a political or religious nature, is it tolerant of other opinions and beliefs and does it match your interests?
- Will involvement enhance or deter your academic and career goals?
