Student Grievances

Illinois State University students are entitled to file a grievance for an alleged unauthorized or unjustified act or decision by a member of the University community which in any way adversely affects the status, rights, or privileges. This process provides students an opportunity to request that the University review actions or decisions of University faculty and staff members. The Student Grievance Committee, operating through Community Rights and Responsibilities, reviews student complaints and handles all investigations deemed necessary.

Some instances (e.g., teacher certification) require separate processes that maintain sole jurisdiction over the event in question. In instances where the action is alleged to be based on some form of intolerance or discriminatory behavior, the Office for Diversity and Affirmative Action serves as the first point of review. Any questions or concerns about student grievances should be directed to Community Rights & Responsibilities.
